Tomorrow Is Another Day
Scarlett O’Hara, Gone With the Wind, and the Women History Forgot
Women, War, and the Making of Memory
Saturday, March 28th, 2026 | 2:00 PM
Part 2: (Optional): Sunday, March 29, 2026
In-Person & Virtual Options Available
This spring, step beyond the myth of Gone With the Wind and into the real history it left behind.
Using Scarlett O’Hara as a cultural lens—not a heroine—this live illustrated salon explores how film and fiction shaped the way Americans remember the Civil War, and how the truth for women across Georgia was far more complex, brutal, and enduring than the story ever captured.
Through curated film clips, firsthand accounts, and historical storytelling, we follow the long aftermath of war from Chickamauga to Atlanta and beyond—where women became nurses, caretakers, organizers, and survivors, carrying the weight of loss long after the fighting ended. This program also honors the women who gathered the dead, created cemeteries, and shaped the earliest Decoration Day traditions, transforming private grief into public remembrance.
This is an immersive and thought-provoking evening focused on the labor of women, the power of memory, and the uncomfortable truth that history is never neutral.
✨ Expect an evening of:
-
Curated film clips with historical commentary
-
True stories of women during and after the Civil War
-
Nurses’ accounts, including voices like Kate Cummings
-
The Ladies’ Memorial Associations and the creation of memorial traditions
